Bloomington Library 3.0: Operational Procedures During COVID-19

Operational Procedures During COVID-19

The library will be following all guidelines as stated in the Ivy Tech Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Update. Masks are required in the library at all times.

If you have any questions, you may contact us by phone, text, or email at our Ask-a-Librarian page.

Research Help and Access to Online Resources

The library subscribes to a plethora of databases that provide access to thousands of online ebooks, magazines, scholarly journals, and streaming videos.  You can view the complete list of our resources at the Bloomington A - Z page.  Our newest resources are highlighted on our New Databases and Publications page.

Librarians are available to assist you with your research.  Visit Ask-a-Librarian where you can contact us by phone, text, email, or chat.  We are also happy to schedule a Zoom call for personalized service.

Library Instruction

The library offers instruction, upon request, to faculty, staff, and students. Instruction may include a general introduction to the campus library as well as instruction in the use of specific resources. Two of our main resources, IvyCat and Discover, have been through major changes over the past summer, and they now have completely new interfaces.  A new Ivy Tech Library phone app will be available soon too.  Students and faculty may have questions about using these updated resources, and we will be happy to show you how! Use this form to request an instruction session.

Visiting the Library

Effective until further notice, only Ivy Tech students, faculty, and staff are permitted to use the Ivy Tech Library.  Community patrons should contact their public library for available services.

A mask is required at all times while in the library.

Current hours and directions to campus can be found at our Hours & Location page.

To meet social distancing guidelines, we will limit the number of users permitted in the library at any given time.  Walk-ins will be permitted if space allows, but students are encouraged to call ahead and make an appointment to ensure priority service.  To schedule an appointment, contact us by email, phone, or text through our Ask-a-Librarian page.

All doors to the library will be kept locked.  Visitors will need to ring the doorbell for service.  All patrons will enter and exit through the front doors facing the bookstore.  The back door facing the Yellowwood is off-limits and will be used as an emergency exit only.

Under normal circumstances, quiet and unobtrusive food, snacks, and drinks would be acceptable.  During the pandemic, however, no food or drinks will be permitted in the library until further notice.

Borrowing and Returning Materials

Our book stacks will remain closed to the public, but we will be happy to retrieve items for you.  Items may be selected and checked out over the phone and then picked up later at the library service desk.  If you prefer not to come into the building, call us at 812-330-6080 or text us at 812-727-3075, and we will make arrangements to meet you at the front door.

Inter-library loan services are available.  Items may be borrowed from participating Ivy Tech campuses and other Indiana libraries.

Items may be renewed by contacting us through our Ask-a-Librarian page.

Items may be returned to the library service desk or to the drop box just outside the library door.  If you prefer not to come into the building, call us at 812-330-6080 or text us at 812-727-3075, and we will make arrangements to meet you at the front door.

All returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours before being made available to the next patron.
