Library Textbook Policy

Reserves Policy - (Textbooks)

  The library maintains many textbooks on reserve for short-term use in the library. Please check with a librarian to see if we have one for your class. Every attempt is made to have as many textbooks available as possible each semester for our face to face classes; however, for various reasons, we may not be able to acquire certain titles.

CIRCULATION

  • 4 hour checkout period.
  • Textbooks may be checked out for three courses at a time at the Lawrence campus.
  • Textbooks must be returned to the campus from which they were checked out.
  • Textbooks may be taken home overnight if checked out within 4 hours of closing.
  • Textbooks may be removed from the library.
  • Textbooks cannot be placed on hold.
  • Textbooks must be returned to the library counter to avoid additional late fees.
  • Textbooks can be renewed only one time and only in person if:
    • A second copy of the textbook is available OR
    • Student waits at least 1 hour so that other patrons have access to textbook

 FINES/FEES

  • 15 minute grace period before fines begin
  • Initial fine is 5¢ per minute or $3.00 per hour.
  • Textbook late 2 - 7 days : Fine will be $50.00.
  • Textbook late day 8+ : Fine will be $100.00 or cost of book..
  • Student loses /damages textbook: Replacement cost will be 100% cost of book + $5 processing fee

Free Trial Textbooks

Ivy Tech has partnered with major publishers (Cengage, McGraw-Hill and Pearson), our campus bookstore, and BryteWave by VitalSource to provide two weeks of free access to a digital copies of your textbooks. Please note: Not all textbook resources are available through Brytewave by Vitalsource. This is a courtesy service provided by participating textbook providers: Cengage, Pearson, and McGraw-Hill.

How does it work?

1.Login to IvyLearn at https://ivylearn.ivytech.edu.

2.Click the HELP button on the Global Navigation Menu.

3.Select IvyLearn Student Resource Center.

4.Select Textbook Free Trial from the menu on the left.

5.Once the BryteWave by VitalSource page opens, you can: 

  • Search for your books by title, author, or ISBN (This information is found on your course syllabus
  • Activate free trials
  • Go to our online bookstore to buy your books
  • Make notes & highlights
  • Read online or offline using the VitalSource Bookshelf desktop & mobile apps

            How do I check to see if my textbook has a free trial available?

  1. Locate the Search field and search for your Cengage, McGraw-Hill, or Pearson textbook by title, author, or ISBN and hit enter. Textbook information is located on your course Syllabus and at the IvyTech bookstore website, https://www.bkstr.com/ivytechstore/home.
  2. Click View Details. 
  3. Select Free Trial, then activate
  4. Launch to read your book
  5. If you have never used Brytewave by VitalSource, you may have to create an account using your Ivy Tech email address.
