Basic/Background Information

Start your research here!
Reading 3-4 articles from the resources below will help you to better understand the scope and important issues of your topic.  As you read about your topic, you will discover which issues you will want to focus on in your paper. 
 

Best Bet: Credo Reference  is a collection of hundreds of encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, and handbooks.  Look for entries that have over 800 words.

Here is a snapshot of a search for "immigration mexico" in Credo.  Because this is such a current issue, you might want to limit the dates of the results:

 

CQ Researcher provides in-depth coverage of the most important issues of the day in researched, footnoted, and fact-checked articles written by seasoned journalists. Below is a snapshot of a CQ Researcher article; note the options for accessing information with in the article on the left.

Articles and Books

Once you have identified which issues of your topic you want to research, start playing with your terms in the Discover! database to find articles and books.  

Best Bet: Discover! 
Discover! searches a number of research article databases (EBSCOJSTOR, etc.), as well as the materials available in our Library (books, ebooks, videos, etc.).

Below are three books found in a Discover! search for immigration and mexico. 

1. The first book is available in two formats: 

  • Ebook: you can access it anywhere that you have an internet connection and are signed in via MyIvy or IvyLearn)  
  • Physical book: find it by the call number on the shelf in your library

2. The second book is only available as a physical book on the shelves in your library.

3. The third book is only available as an ebook.
