Learning Resource Center - Terre Haute

Tutoring is available in-person and online in Zoom. Tutoring sessions can be arranged in the following ways based on tutor availability in any given semester:

1. Students can walk into the LRC in Room C-108 (Library Hallway) without an appointment to receive assistance on a first come, first serve basis.
2. Students can drop into Zoom without an appointment to receive assistance on a first come, first serve basis on designated drop-in days and times.
3. Students can arrange an appointment on campus or in Zoom for allocated appointment days and times.

Students can quickly and easily search for appointment availabilities or drop in availabilities through the TracCloud dashboard in MyIvy.

SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS THROUGH THE TRACCLOUD DASHBOARD in MYIVY

To schedule a tutoring appointment, follow the steps below:
1. Log into MyIvy using your Ivy Tech email and password.

2. Open Tools & Resources from the MyIvy Taskbar:

3. Select the Campus Tutoring Services Quicklink. Consider adding it as a Favorite for easy access in the future

 

4. Click Schedule an Appointment or Search for Availability to open the appointment search tool. 

5. Find the first available appointment at your local campus tutoring center or search for availability for a specific date and tutoring center of your choice.

a. Choose a subject by selecting the course you’d like tutoring for, and 

b. Choose a reason for your upcoming appointment.

c. Select Search to view available appointment times. 

Available appointment options will appear, displaying the appointment time, type, location options, and tutor:

1 on 1 indicates a campus-based, in-person tutoring appointment:

1 on 1 Online indicates a virtual appointment in Zoom:

1 on 1 Online OR In-Person indicates an appointment can take place in Zoom OR on campus:

6. Select your preferred appointment from the list.

7. Confirm the session’s location. 

• Because some appointments can be scheduled 1-on-1 (in-person) OR online, it is important to verify the location of the appointment by selecting or de-selecting the location checkbox if optional locations are offered.

8. Verify the session’s details to confirm and reserve the appointment time and location. 

9. Watch your Ivy Tech email inbox for an appointment confirmation message and additional instructions for accessing your tutoring session.

SEARCHING FOR CAMPUS TUTORING DROP IN AVAILABILITY

Students can also use the TracCloud dashboard to search for Drop In availabilities.  Follow the same SSO login process by going to MyIvy > Tools & Resources > Campus Tutoring Services.

In the Dashboard search results, Drop In availability is displayed as a blue box, identifying times when students can drop in (on campus or in Zoom) for tutoring support:

Students can drop in for tutoring by visiting the location listed in the lower right corner of the availability block.

1 Start Early

​Get to know the tutoring staff and our services at the beginning of the semester so you can maximize your efforts and become a part of our learning community as you move toward your academic goals.

2 Bring Your Tools With You

​Bring your notes, assignment guidelines, questions, textbooks, online access codes, flash drives, or any other tools that will provide tutors with a full picture of the course, the instructor's expectations, and your concerns.

3 Be Responsible for Your Work

​Our goal is to help you to help yourself.  We are here to build your confidence and skills as you master your classes, but tutoring does not serve as a substitution for the experience you will gain in the classroom.

​Try homework or assignments on your own first--tutors cannot provide answers or merely check your work for accuracy, especially in math classes.  However, if your homework has been attempted, tutors can guide you to understanding the material.

​Ultimately, responsibility for your work belongs to you, and only you can make choices about the content and quality of your assignments.

​4 Take Time & Ask Questions

​​Closed questions are answerable with a quick "yes" or "no" and are suitable for situations when you only need guidance for a brief moment.

​Open-ended questions are the kind of questions you want to ask when you must dive deeper in order to understand a subject. Our tutors are also here to help you take the deeper dive.

Instructors (and future employers) are looking for critical thinking skills that involve thoughtful and thorough responses to open ended questions.  Learning how to take the time and ask these kinds of questions is the first step in learning how to answer them.

5 Be Pro-Active

​When it comes to any difficulty you are experiencing in your classes, don't wait until midterm to seek advice or assistance from your instructors or from tutors. 

​We are all here to help you succeed!
