Reference materials provide background information or quick facts on a topic. They can be used as a starting point for a research project or to help explain or expand on a topic from your textbook or classroom instruction. Generally, reference materials are not read cover to cover like other books. Types of reference materials: dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, timelines, biographical outlines, atlas & maps, etc.
