Lafayette Library Policies & Services

Book Collection -- The college book collection provides supplemental material which supports the programs of the college. There is also a small fiction section, as well as popular nonfiction titles.

Borrowing Materials -- Materials may be checked out (up to 10 items at a time) with a current Ivy Tech ID with barcode.  Items circulate for 3 weeks with the possibility of 2 additional 3-week renewals, unless there is a hold placed on the item. 

Photocopies/Computer Printouts/Scanner -- The library provides a printer/scanner. The student $5 printing allowance can be used in the library. Computer printouts  and photocopies are available in color for 30 cents and b&w for 5 cents a page. Double sided printing is the default at 7 cents for b&w and 45 cents for color. You can add money to your account using a credit/debit card:  Go to:  https://papercut.ivytech.edu/ Then click on the link:  "Add funds using a credit card" in the left-hand menu.   Or, you can instead pay by cash at the Cashier's Office in the Express Enrollment Center in Ivy Hall.   Scanning to email is free. Note:  All printing is linked to Ivy Tech student, faculty, and staff accounts using a current  Ivy Tech username/password.

Computers/Wireless Access -- The library provides computers for student, faculty, and staff use. Login with your Ivy Tech username and password .  Wireless Internet access is also available throughout the library. Wireless printing is also available. 

Inter-Library Loan -- If you can't find the material you need you can borrow from  other Ivy Tech libraries as well as libraries nationwide. Come to the circulation desk in the Campus Library for assistance or fill out our online form: Request Materials from other Libraries.

Material Request -- If you would like the  library to purchase a book or other material click on the link to fill out a request form.

Reciprocal Borrowing -- Information on the ALI (Academic Library Initiative) program which allows students, faculty and staff to borrow books from academic libraries in Indiana.

Study Areas --  There are many tables, carrels, and soft furniture throughout the library for quiet or group study. Three study rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis. These are reserved for Ivy Tech students, staff, and faculty use only.

Training Session Request Form (for faculty) -- Fill out our online form to schedule training sessions for classes on how to use all of our library resources.

Textbooks -- Some textbooks and other materials are on reserve for in-library use only. Reserves are located at the Reference desk in the Library. Reserves may be checked out with a current Ivy Tech ID with barcode for 2 hours at a time. These items must be kept in the library, unless permission is obtained to remove.

Food -- Food is permitted in the library. A microwave is available in Ivy Hall (vending machine area) and in Griffin Hall (student lounge). No microwave is currently available in Gipe Hall. Food waste/trash must be thrown away properly.

Cell Phones -- Cell phone use should be limited, and no call should be taken on speaker. Please be aware that you are in a public place, and any personal information can be heard by those around you.

Headphones -- Headphones are required for any situation which uses played audio. This includes videos, music, and Zoom/Team/etc. meetings. If you do not have headphones with you, the library can provide you with some at the Reference Desk.

Where can I return library materials? -- Library materials should be returned to the Campus Library. Book drops are available in the air lock and to the right of the main doors (on the exterior of the building). If you are unsure or if you received information regarding the item being in lost status, you can return the item to the Reference Desk in the library.

Are there fines for overdue books? What if I lose or damage a book or other material?  --  For overdue items, you will receive email notices sent to your Ivy Tech email address. If you fail to return the book, you will be charged a replacement cost (price of the book) plus a $5 processing fee. Any such bills can be paid at the Bursar's office in Ivy Hall. Donations -- The library accepts donations of new and gently used materials. No gift receipts are provided, and the college does not value any donated items. If the library is unable to keep a donated item, it will either be offered on a giveaway cart (located in the airlock of Gipe Hall) or it will be properly recycled. The library accepts both fiction and nonfiction donations.

Community Use of the Library -- The library is happy to support community users in the following ways:

  • Study space - The only space which is reserved for students, staff, and faculty are the study rooms. All other areas on the first floor are open to community users.
  • Materials - The physical book collection is open for use by community users within the building. Community users are currently unable to check out materials/remove items from the building.
  • Internet Access - Guest wifi is available in Gipe Hall. Currently, no public access computers are provided.
