SB-E Tutoring and Writing Center Mission Statements

The South Bend-Elkhart Tutoring Centers  seeks to establish a community of lifelong learners working toward increasing academic success by helping them build working study habits and skillsets. In this way, The Center increases student empowerment by encouraging proactive learning. Our staff of credentialed tutors meet students at their levels of understanding in their coursework and help them to improve their academic success by sharing with them the best study practices. Proactive learning is built in part by students who recognize that they belong to group of hard workers; therefore, tutors encourage study groups to grow within the community of learners.

The South Bend-Elkhart Writing Center (located within the South Bend Library) seeks to establish a community of lifelong learners working toward improving written communication through collaboration, conversation, and critique. All aspects of writing will be open for discussion including this small sampling: the writing process, the nuts and bolts of grammar, the technical issues involved in citation and formatting various styles of academic writing, and the more expressive practices of creative writing. We strive to be an interdisciplinary resource that welcomes full-campus participation. Services provided by discipline-credentialed staff will include one-on-one conferencing, group tutoring, writing workshops, and other activities.
