Bloomington - Advancing Racial Equity Collection

Advancing Racial Equity Grant logo

The Joan Olcott Library received a grant from Indiana Humanities, made possible with funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc., for the purpose of developing an Advancing Racial Equity Collection. As a response to the 2020 murder of George Floyd and the ensuing protests, this grant program was designed to address the increased demand on libraries for materials on the subject of racial equity. The grant funds were used to purchase the Books, DVDs, and e-Books featured on this page. These items are available to all students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Indiana Humanities is a statewide nonprofit that “infuses the humanities into our daily lives.” Their goal for this particular grant is to “help Hoosiers think, read, and talk about racial injustice and systemic racism and to support libraries as key public humanities organizations in this work.” Find out more at Indiana Humanities.

The addition of these resources to our collection has been made possible through a grant from Indiana Humanities with funds from Lilly Endowment, Inc.
