MAKE AN APPOINTMENT or DROP IN

Tutors are available for half-hour sessions for up to 2 hours increments. Appointments can be scheduled in advance during a Tutor’s available time.

  • Be sure to let your tutor know what in particular you need help with: respiratory system, EXCEL, quadratic equations, etc.

  • You must be currently enrolled in an Ivy Tech credit-bearing or prerequisite course to receive Tutor Center services. 
  • Notify Tutoring Center if you are going to be late or miss your appointment: Valpo-tutor@ivytech.edu
  • Tutoring by appointment is limited to 2 hours per week/per subject.
  • Students missing 3 scheduled appointments will not be able to make advanced appointments and will be allowed walk-in or online drop-in service only for the remainder of the semester.
  • Children are not allowed in the Tutoring Center.

TUTOR PROFILES

Megan Hughes - Tutoring and S.I. Supervisor

Mrs. Megan Hughes is the Director of New Student Experience as well as the Supervisor for the Tutoring Center and Supplemental Instruction (SI) program at the Valparaiso and Michigan City campuses.  Before coming to Ivy Tech, Megan was a music teacher for 4 years teaching in Vigo County and later in Lake County.  She earned her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Indiana State University and is currently working on a Master's degree in Educational Psychology at Ball State University.  In addition to her role, Megan is also the Department Chair for the IVYT Student Success program.

Helen Kelley

Helen, pictured with her purr-sonal assistant, Buttons, has been a tutor at the Valparaiso Ivy Tech campus since the Fall semester of 2012. She doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon. She graduated in 2013 with a degree in Pre-Engineering but stayed because of her desire to help others. Her main areas for tutoring are Math (from Arithmetic to Derivatives), some Physics, and Anatomy and Physiology 101.

Helen has been the Lead Tutor on campus since Fall of 2013, so if you have a question about our policies, procedures, method of operation, or anything similar, feel free to ask.

Tina Allen-Abulhassan

Tina is a Valparaiso Ivy Tech Alumni, finishing with two AS degrees (Office Administration 2007 and Paralegal Studies 2011). She was inducted in the Kappa Beta Delta Honor Society and graduated as a Magna Cum Laude with her Office Administration Degree. Tina enjoys learning and helping others achieve their educational Goals. Tina decided to further her education and continued to pursue Paralegal Studies, earning a bachelor’s degree at Calumet College of Saint Joseph (again, Magna Cum Laude) in 2014.

Learning never stops for Tina as she decided to pursue her Master of Liberal Studies at Valparaiso University with a concentration of Ethics and Value in 2017, earning her the Distinguish Student Award. She continues her part time tutoring at Ivy Tech to give back and help other students achieve their academic goals so they can reach their future endeavors. She believes a community college is a great foundation for students to build their education. Tina enjoys tutoring English papers, MS Office, Resumes, Cover Letters, Knowledge Assessment, and Communication Classes.

Rana Altarazi

Rana is an accounting, math and MS Office tutor at IVY Tech Valparaiso. She has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Damascus University, Syria. She also has an associate degree in Accounting and a Technical Certificate in Computer Science from Ivy Tech. She has been working in the Tutoring Center and helping students since 2012. Rana enjoys spending time with her family and loves to travel.

Milijana Jakovljevic

Milijana holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During her study, she was tutoring math at several Community Colleges in Illinois. After graduation, Milijana was working as a teacher at the elementary school in Chicago. When she moved to Indiana, Milijana started working at the Ivy Tech Community College as a math tutor. She loves to spend her free time with her family and loved ones.

Patrick Tanski

Patrick Tanski is a part-time tutor at the Tutoring Resource Center for the Valparaiso service area and has worked from the Michigan City location for five (5) years.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Education, accompanied by fifteen years of experience teaching Math (Algebra) and Beginning Chemistry. Additionally, he holds a valid Indiana Teaching License in both Math and Science. 

 

Courses in which Patrick tutors include MATH 123, MATH 136, and CHEM 100.  Make an appointment or “drop” into his Zoom room if you need help.
