Our newest library database, O'Reilly for Higher Education, contains thousands of eBooks, audio books, and videos covering topics ranging from technology and computer software to business and career developmentavailable online, 24/7 and free to all Ivy Tech students.

O’Reilly has a number of video tutorial series to help you learn and master Excel, which you’ll find in the playlists below.

Note: If you haven't used O'Reilly before, you'll be asked to log in with your Ivy Tech username and password after clicking on either of the playlists. This will create your free account on O'Reilly—if you need help, please refer to the second tab at the top of this box!

Access either playlist below by clicking on the title or picture:

Learning Excel: Beginners Learning Excel: Intermediate to Advanced

Topics covered include:

  • creating a new workbook
  • entering and editing spreadsheet data (including cutting, copying, and pasting)
  • formatting worksheets, numbers, dates, & text
  • using fill options (auto, series, and flash fill)
  • adjusting columns and rows
  • basics of formulas and functions
  • sorting and filtering data
  • using conditional formatting

Topics covered include:

  • data tables and pivot tables
  • charts and graphs (including pivot charts)
  • financial functions (PMT, NPV, PV, NPER, IRR)
  • HLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, IF, AND, OR functions
  • grouping worksheets
  • defining and managing named ranges
  • importing/exporting data from another workbook, Access database or other external sources
  • Goal Seek, What-If Analysis, Scenario Manager

How the playlists are set up:

Each playlist contains a list of titles with a series of video tutorials—just click on one of the titles to get started:

After clicking on the title you want to view, you’ll see a table of contents on the right-hand side of the page with links to each of the different video tutorials. You can either click on the red ‘Start’ button to start from the very beginning and watch everything in order, or jump ahead to a specific tutorial by clicking on the link for it in the table of contents:

 

After clicking the link to either of the playlists on the previous page, you'll be taken to a screen asking for your Ivy Tech credentials:

After signing in with your Ivy Tech username and password, you may or may not see another screen asking you to select topics you are most interested in. This is only to personalize the suggestions you see on your O’Reilly home screen, so you can just choose anything you want (at least 3 topics). After this, you'll see the O'Reilly home page:
