Faculty Library Guide: Services

The library offers many resources and services to students, faculty, and staff.

Ask-a-Librarian

Ask-a-Librarian is our online reference service available to students (and faculty!) to assist in answering any library-related questions and to assist with research needs.  An email response can generally be expected within 24 hours; weekend turnaround time may be longer.

Interlibrary Loan

Should a book or article not be available in our library or online resources, we will be happy to try and locate and borrow the item from another library--this service is available to faculty, students, and staff.  While there is usually no charge for interlibrary loan (ILL) service, please note that in those rare instances, any charge comes from the lending library--we always share that information with our borrower first, and he or she may decide whether to proceed with or cancel the loan.  The Library reserves the right to limit the number ot items requested.  Textbooks are not included in materials that may be requested through ILL.

Each library has its own lending policies, and not all resources are available for loan.  Libraries seldom loan A-V materials, for instance, though between Ivy Tech campuses, there is a greater chance of success.  Planning ahead is important (as we regularly remind students) as sometimes it may take a few weeks to receive an item borrowed from another library.

Articles and photocopies need not be returned, but books (which generally have a loan period of about four weeks) need to be returned to the library in a timely fashion.

Please contact John Drumm at jdrumm2@ivytech.edu or 765-289-2291, Ext. 1410 with any loan requests.

Library Reserve Collection

The Library maintains a collection of reserve materials and faculty are invited to bring in books, articles, or other materials to have available in the library for their students' use.  Students may request to borrow reserve items and once materials have been signed out to them, they must remain in the library until the borrowed materials are returned to the circulation desk.

Please contact library staff for additional information.

Library Information Literacy Instruction

Library instruction may be requested by contacting John Drumm at jdrumm2@ivytech.edu or 765-289-2291, Ext. 1410.  Stopping by is also and always welcomed--John would love to chat with you!

Seven Steps

Seven Steps - An IvyTILT Research Strategy is the Ivy Tech Libraries' online information literacy tutorial.  Each of the seven modules provides videos and information on topics that include search strategies, selecting resources, finding and utilizing information on the open web, and evaluating and citing sources.  Each module also includes a self-check quiz.

Library Guides

The guide you are looking at right now is our Faculty Library Guide.  Other guides are located on our library website.  If you are interested in having a guide developed for your course or program please contact Susan Clark at jsclark@ivytech.edu or 765-289-2291, Ext. 1321.  If you're at Cowan Road and brave enough to wade through all of the sorting, shuffling, and discarding (the really hard part!) that precedes a move, feel free to stop by her office to discuss the guide that will best meet your needs!

Tutoring & Writing Center

Tutoring in math, English, science, accounting, and other subjects is available in the library and at the Fisher Building.  Please refer your students to the library webpage to locate the tutoring schedule.  They are also welcome to call, email, or stop in at the library to pick up a schedule.

Testing Services

All testing at the Muncie Campus is now combined under Testing Services, and at some point in coming months, all testing will be conducted in the newly renovated Testing Center located next to the Copy Center in the South Building.  Note:  As that room undergoes continued renovation to meeting testing standards, during Fall semester, all make-up and distance education testing will take place in the Make-up and DE Testing Room--509B in the North Building.

To schedule proctored exams for your students, please use the latest version of the proctor form.  This form is always available in the Faculty Resource Center in IvyLearn--once in the FRC, look for Testing Services on the right side of the screen.  Along with the proctor form, this link will provide access to several useful information pieces regarding the testing process.
