Avoiding Plagiarism

The four elements of an APA-style reference are:

  • Author (Who is responsible for this work?)
  • Date (When was it published or reviewed?)
  • Title (What is this work called?)
  • Source (Where can I retrieve this work?)

In Reference pages, APA elements are ordered:

Author, A. (Date). Title sentence style. Source Title. Publisher. https://doi.org/#

When you paraphrase, quote, or summarize another persons idea or words, you need to cite it in your paper. This is called in-text citation. For APA the order for in-text citation is:

(Author, date)

There's no special way to structure your PowerPoint in APA format. The main thing is to follow APA format for your citations.

  • You need a References slide at the end of your presentation (or multiple slides, if you have many sources).
  • Individual slides all need APA style in-text citations where appropriate (i.e. anywhere you've used information not original to you).
  • Best practices for PowerPoint and other presentations still apply: this is not a paper pasted into a slideshow. You should still make use of short, concise bullet points and images or other graphics to develop an engaging presentation
