Research 101

Having trouble thinking of a topic?

Browse these lists of possible research questions.

Writing an argumentative paper? Or about a current event or popular topic? Check out these databases.

To narrow your topic ask yourself...

  • Is there a specific part of the topic you are interested in?
  • Is there a cause and effect you can explore?
  • Are there unanswered questions on the subject?
  • Can you focus on a specific time period, group of people, or place within the topic?
  • Are there different perspectives you can explore?

You don’t have to answer all these questions, just those that apply. This list is to get you thinking about your topic, not a checklist.
