Community members visiting the Ivy Tech LRC or Lawrence campus libraries are accountable for Ivy Tech's Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities, all Library policies, as well as local, state, and federal laws. Behavior that violates these expectations may result in community members being asked to leave library premises, and/or suspension of library privileges.
Community members wishing to check out materials from the Ivy Tech Indianapolis or Lawrence campus libraries must present a valid Community Patron library card, which is valid for 1 year and is renewable.
Community members may apply for or renew a Community Patron library card by providing the following documents to library staff:
Current, government-issued ID displaying an Indianapolis (Marion County) residential address
2 pieces of business mail (i.e. utility bill), no more than 30 days old, verifying name and address is same as government-issued ID
Community members may check out 2 items from the libraries’ general collection at a time, with a check-out period of 2 weeks. Community patrons are responsible for all fines associated with overdue and lost books. See fines and fees policy.
The following item types from the Lawrence campus library are not permitted to be checked out by community patrons due to their high demand by students and faculty in specialized academic programs:
Nursing and Health Science texts (items with call numbers beginning with Q and R)
DVDs
Ivy Tech campus libraries are unable to fill community patrons’ Interlibrary loan requests. Community members are encouraged to request desired items through the Indianapolis Public Library’s Interlibrary Loan services.
LRC Downtown Library
Due to their high demand, library computers are reserved for active Ivy Tech students; however, community patrons are welcome to bring personal laptops into the library and utilize the Ivy Tech guest wi-fi.
Lawrence Campus Library
Upon presenting an Indiana government-issued photo ID, community patrons 17 years old or older may obtain a guest computer pass, which is valid on the date of issuing. Limit of one guest pass per community member per day.
Community patrons are expected to abide by all Ivy Tech Indianapolis Library policies, as well as those outlined in Ivy Tech's Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities. Computer technology may not be used for any illegal, immoral, or unethical purpose.
Because campus computers are publicly accessible, the College does not guarantee a right to privacy when they are used. The College may monitor and access information for investigative and/or administrative purposes and may take administrative action in response to any violation of this policy, applicable administrative regulation, or other law.
The Library reserves the right to:
Prioritize computer access for Ivy Tech students, faculty, and staff.
Restrict guest computer access during peak student usage times. Eg.) certain hours of the day or certain times of the semester such as final's week
Community patrons needing more extensive computer access should refer to Indianapolis Public Library locations.
