What is COVID-19-iku? It's Haiku with the purpose of sharing one's pandemic thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Instead of the traditional 17 syllable format, COVID-19-iku uses 19 syllables arranged over three lines in a 6/7/6 syllable layout (or any other 3-line variation using 19 syllables).
Why write a COVID-19-iku? Writing poetry provides a creative outlet with the potential to relieve stress and share our frustrations during these trying times. The Covid-19-ikus presented here were written by Ivy Tech students, faculty, staff, and alumni during the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. Student authors were eligible to win prizes, and you will find the winning entries on the Contest Winners page.
The complete finished product has been made freely available here on the library website so that it may be enjoyed by the broader Bloomington Community. We're all in this together, and this project is a way for Ivy Tech to provide a sense of community during this time of distance.
