Rhetorical Analysis involves examining how someone--or something, as in a company or organization--communicates with an audience in order to persuade the audience to a common goal.
Common rhetorical analyses might involve analyzing a speech or a piece of writing. Emphasis is placed on the use of words and language.
Elements of a Rhetorical Analysis often also include analyzing and discussing in the essay how the rhetor--or the communicator--uses appeals to the audience known as Ethos (Ethics), Logos (Logic), and/or Pathos (Emotion).
Visual Analysis is similar to Rhetorical Analysis but it usually revolves around analyzing an ad campaign to determine how a company used advertising-as well as Ethos, Pathos, and Logos--to appeal to shoppers and to convince them to purchase a product.
